Does Sitting-Up = Spitting-Up?

Ever since Brennan starting sitting up last week - he's been spitting up.......alot. Is he using different stomach muscles that are causing his food to come up and out of his stomach? Or does he suddenly have really bad reflux? Honestly, he spits up almost every time he sits (which makes me feel really bad about even having him sit as I'd imagine the spitting up is pretty uncomfortable). His physical therapist will be here tomorrow morning, so I'll start by asking her if she's seen this happen with new sitters. Brennan also has his 12 month well-visit soon, so I'll talk to his pediatrician about it then (if not before). And, of course, if any of you have any input - it would be greatly appreciated!

Tons of our kiddos have reflux, so I wouldn't be surprised if he had it. I would guess that he previously was swallowing it and now that he is up and more in control of his body, that he is spitting it up. Just my two cents. Reflux is scary, because lots of our kids don't show us symptoms and by the time you find out years later, the acid has already done lots of damage. Being proactive is the key! ;)

You know...Brayden has begun doing this as well...I think it is a good idea we check this out...he doesn't seem to be in pain from spitting up, but at PT is usually when he does it more than other times. She works him to death, but yeah...I am starting to get concerned. Better to check on it than not...we aren't suppose to go in until he is 12 months either, so let me know what you find out...I think I will go in earlier too!

Dylan has also started to spit up alot! I called his pedi and made an appointment bc I was getting pretty concerned about it. She weighed him and said that bc he's still gaining well, she wasn't terribly concerned. She did prescribe Zantac, but I have only given it to D twice as he HATES the stuff and proceeds to spit it out right after I give it to him! So, I have just been pretty strict about keeping him upright for 30-40mins after I feed him. That seems to be helping a bit.
KUP as to what you find out. : )

This is one I haven't experienced, so I can't help. But good luck figuring it out. I wouldn't wait though, you never know what could be going on with these kids...they like to throw us curve balls!

Sometimes it's the exertion that causes the spitting up rather....so if it's hard for him to sit up or he's still working really hard on sitting up, it could be that. Joaquin would spit up a lot when he first started sitting up but then it passed when he got more strength in his trunk and it wasn't such a workout. He used to do the same with crawling. He would spit up in the beginning because it was hard work for him, now he rarely does. Hope this helps....

Thanks for your comments....Brennan is now taking Zantac. It doesn't seem to be making much of a difference - so I'm going to take him back to his pediatrician to see what other option there are. I'll keep you posted!
